1. New edition of Australian Diamond Deposits map
A new edition of the Australian Diamond Deposits, Kimberlites and Related Rocks 1:5 million scale map has been released. This edition includes additional kimberlite locations including more detail on new discoveries in South Australia. Copies of the map may be downloaded from the Geoscience Australia website.
For further information, please email Mike Huleatt, or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9087.
2. Australia's Identified Mineral Resources 2006
The latest edition of Australia's Identified Mineral Resources 2006 has been released by Geoscience Australia.
Australia's Identified Mineral Resources 2006 contains a wealth of minerals exploration and development information and is linked to the Australian Mines Atlas. The assessment includes evaluations of long-term trends in mineral resources, international rankings, summaries of significant exploration results, brief reviews of mining industry developments, and an analysis of mineral exploration expenditure across Australia. Australia's resource stocks remain healthy overall, although there has been a levelling off of resource trends for several major commodities. Reflecting strong global demand for mineral resources, expansions in mine production of coking coal, iron ore, uranium and other commodities continued in 2005 and the mineral resources sector overall contributed substantively to Australia's prosperity.
For further information, please email Bill McKay, or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9003.
3. Broken Hill Exploration Initiative Conference
The Broken Hill Exploration Initiative conference was held in Broken Hill on 25-28 September 2006, and was co-sponsored by the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Primary Industries and Resources South Australia, Geoscience Australia, pmd*CRC and CRC LEME. A series of extended abstracts outlining the proceedings of the conference was edited by R.J. Korsch and R.G. Barnes, and was published as Geoscience Australia Record 2006/21. This 206 page volume is now available for downloading from the Geoscience Australia website.
For further information, please email Russell Korsch, or phone +61 2 6249 9495.
