Landslide history made accessible

Emergency management organisations, researchers, students and interested members of the public have an opportunity to more easily obtain detailed information on Australia’s significant landslides through an improved database developed by Geoscience Australia.
The Landslide Search Database contains detailed information on landslips and landslides, which can consist of one or more related landslip events.
The upgraded database allows a search to be customised to suit particular requirements by selecting a date range, a town or city, a state or territory, specific latitude and longitude, an area on a map or by the impact of an event such as infrastructure damage. The application also integrates information with a printable map.
The database covers events which have occurred across Australia since 1842. These events have been identified mainly through newspaper reports and information from other scientific organisations.
The database has been developed as part of Geoscience Australia’s activities aimed at improving access to spatial data to help emergency managers and planners mitigate the impacts of natural hazards.
