Australian Spatial Data Infrastructure Pilot

Background

The ANZLIC Metadata Profile version 1.1 has been endorsed by the ANZLIC Council. A PDF version of this document is available at http://www.anzlic.org.au/metadata/.

More information about the profile is available from the OSDM web site http://www.osdm.gov.au/Metadata/default.aspx including:

  • ANZLIC Metadata Guidelines,
  • XML tools to help validate ANZLIC Metadata Profile XML documents, and
  • XML codeLists of the ANZLIC Geographic Extent Names and Search Words,

These documents are availale at: http://asdd.ga.gov.au/asdd/profileinfo/

Another relevant development is the ANZLIC Metadata Entry Tool based on the open source GeoNetwork software. It has been endorsed by OSDM to be suitable, free software for Australian Government Agencies to develop a Metadata Entry Tool and a Catalogue Service Web to make that metadata available to the external work including the ASDD.

More information about the ANZLIC Metadata Entry Tool is available from http://anzlicmet.bluenet.utas.edu.au/

The Australian Spatial Data Directory was launched in 1998. Since then several standards and specifications have been developed by ISO (International Organisation of Standardisation) or OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium). The ASDD will need to be changed to search the new ANZLIC Metadata Profile XML document instances using these standards and specifications.

Your feedback about the ANZLIC Profile and Guidelines can be temporarily directed to: asdi-l@lists.anzlic.org.au until dedicated lists can be created.

ASDI Pilot

A pilot project sponsored by OSDM has been approved by the ANZLIC Council to use GeoNetwork to replace the ASDD gateways. This work is currently underway. For the time being it will be called the ASDI because the ASDD is a critical component of the ASDI and the pilot project will have more ASDI functional components than the ASDD. That functionality is representative of the original user requirements of the ASDI. It is possible the the replacement gateways will be the first implementation of the ASDI.

Currently, the process is up to:
