IRS-P6 Geometric and Radiometric Specifications
The positional accuracy of IRS-P6 products is assessed by Geoscience Australia on a regular basis. The results are shown in the table below.
|
Satellite/Sensor/Level |
Positional Accuracy |
|---|---|
|
IRS-P6 Liss-III Level 2 Path Image Products |
95% of products better than ± 1000 m |
|
IRS-P6 AWiFS Level 2 Map Image Products |
95% of products better than ± 1000 m |
IRS-P6 products’ radiometric accuracy is evaluated in terms of the following parameters:
- Relative accuracy
- signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) across uniform area
- spectral response of the detectors across CCD array
- absolute accuracy
- verification with in-situ ground truth data.
The Indian National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) has been conducting routine calibration/validation (Cal/Val) activities. If required the NRSC will update the calibration coefficients also for the Data Processing Generation System (DPGS) implemented at Geoscience Australia.
Cross-calibration between Landsat 5/7 and IRS-P6 AWiFS and Liss-III sensors show that the average reflectance estimates obtained from these sensors agree within 13%. Table below shows the cross-calibration gains of all four sensors normalised to the Advanced Wide Field Sensor (AWiFS).

Framing of scenes
Images from IRS-P6 are available only in the strandard path/row system developed by the satellite operator. This is a technical limitation of the processing systems for IRS data.
Data formats
Data are provided in specific formats commonly used in the remote sensing industry. Detailed information is available in the section on File Formats.
