In this false colour swipe comparison, the extent of the urban areas of Tamworth are highlighted in red. Vegetation appears in a range of blue to green, with blue representing more irrigated or mature vegetation. Darker shades of blue or green represent forests or plantations, with lighter shades showing grasslands or agriculture. Bare ground or dense infrastructure appears bright yellow. Tamworth’s main area of growth has been to the south, particularly around the suburbs of Hillvue and Calala. The rurul residential area of Kingswood also appears to the south of the city. Growth to the east of the city is relatively restricted by the Wentworth Mounds. Westdale is the suburb with the most growth to the west. Notice the difference in vegetation colour between old and new images of the surrounding floodplains. This is due to changes in vegetation moisture content from inter-annual differences in rainfall.
