The city of Wagga Wagga is located in the Riverina region of New South Wales on the Murrumbidgee River. These images were acquired from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor. True and false colour images for both a recent (2010), and an older (1988) scene are available below in high resolution JPEG format.

In this false colour swipe comparison, the extent of the urban areas of Wagga Wagga appear as shades of purple and white. Vegetation appears as light green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Water is displayed as dark blue to black. Most urban expansion has been to the south of the city, with much less occurring on the northern side of the Murrumbidgee River. New suburbs include Glenfield Park, Bourkeland, Tatton and Springvale. There is also noticeably development around the Wagga Wagga City Airport west of the central business district. Differences in vegetation colour between old and new images are due to changes in vegetation moisture content from inter-annual differences in rainfall.
