In these false colour images, urban areas appear as shades of purple and white. Vegetation appears as green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Bare rock and soil will appear as shades of blue. Water is displayed as black. The urban development is most prominent in Katherine East, with scattered rural residential areas appearing north of town along the Stuart Highway. The Katherine Rail Passenger Terminal is also constructed south of town during this time, which services The Ghan passenger train between Adelaide and Darwin. The water level of the Katherine River is also much greater during the 2010 image, and the burnscars from bushfire to the west of the town are no longer evident.
