The city of Gladstone, Queensland, is situated on Australia’s east coast between the Calliope and Boyne Rivers. These images were acquired from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor. True and false colour images for both a recent (2010), and an older (1988) scene are available below in high resolution JPEG format.

In this true colour swipe comparison, colours appear as close as they would naturally to the human eye. Urban areas appear grey to white, trees and grasslands as shades of green and brown, and water bodies as dark to black. Gladstone has expanded mainly along the southern edge of the city, with the suburbs of Clinton, New Auckland, Telina and Glen Eden appearing over the time skip. The rural residential area of Beecher has also appeared south of the city, along with significant expansion of the nearby town of Calliope. Several prominent shale oil mines and associated infrastructure has appeared along The Narrows north of Gladstone.
