The city of Toowoomba is located in southeast Queensland, approximately 130km inland from Brisbane. These images were acquired from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor. True and false colour images for both a recent (2009), and an older (1988) scene are available below in high resolution JPEG format.

In this false colour swipe comparison, the extent of the urban areas of Toowoomba can be seen highlighted in cyan to white. Grassland appears as shades of orange, with denser forested land as brown. Agricultural pastures and barren soils appear as shades of green to blue. Within the city, development has continued to spread mainly south and west of the city centre, with expansion to the east restricted by the Great Dividing Range. Business districts appear in Wilsonton, and rural residential areas have established in Top Camp. Many of the nearby towns have seen significant growth, including Kingsthorpe and Highfields to the north, and Westbrook and Wyreema to the south.
