In this false colour swipe comparison, the extent of the urban areas of Launceston appear as shades of purple and white. Vegetation appears as light green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Water is displayed as dark blue to black. Residential expansion can be noted in most suburbs of the city, but particularly in Riverside, Blackstone Heights, Prospect Vale and Norwood. The small towns of Longford, Hadspen and Perth have likewise seen very marked growth in comparison to their overall size. West of Riverside, there has been both deforestation and plantation within the same area of forest.
