In this false colour swipe comparison, the extent of the urban areas of Geelong are highlighted in purple and white. Vegetation appears as light green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Water is displayed as dark blue to black. Geelong’s residential sprawl has been mainly around the southern suburbs such as in Wandana Heights, Waurn Ponds and St Albans Park. Business districts have likewise seen new building development, particular those in Marshall and Breakwater. Nearby satellite towns of Lara and Leopold have both expanded significantly. The Geelong Ring Road, which extends from the Princes Highway to circumnavigate the city is a very noticeable infrastructure upgrade during the time skip.
