The city of Sale is located in the Gippsland region of Victoria, to the east of Lake Wellington. These images were acquired from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor. True and false colour images for both a recent (2011), and an older (1987) scene are available below in high resolution JPEG format.

Sale Sale

In this true colour swipe comparison, colours appear as close as they would naturally to the human eye. Urban areas appear grey to white, trees and grasslands as shades of green and yellow, and water bodies as dark blue to black. Sale and nearby towns have seen notable growth in the last two decades. Residential growth within Sale itself has been to the north, and in Wurruk across the La Trobe River. Both towns of Maffra and Stratford to the north has also grown significantly. Further commercial development appears in East Sale near the East Sale Airport. The swamps and flood inlets to the southeast of the city are also much fuller in the 2011 image.

In these false colour images, urban areas appear as shades of purple and white. Vegetation appears as light green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Water is displayed as dark blue to black.
