In this false colour swipe comparison, urban areas appear as shades of purple and white. Sparse vegetation appears as light green to yellow, with drier areas appearing lighter. Water is displayed as dark blue to black. Port Hedland’s development over the last two decades is largely due to the growing mining industry. New residential housing can be seen in South Hedland, Wedgefield, and Port Hedland itself. New mining and industrial construction can be observed near Boodarie and Finucane, as well as an expansion of the solar salt farms to the west of town. Also notice the upgrade to the rail system that ships the iron ore from inland mines to the port.
