Bathurst and Melville Islands colloquially known as the Tiwi Islands. These Islands are 40km north of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Melville Island is Australia’s second largest Island after Tasmania. This LANDSAT-5 Image was acquired on 3 July 2011. Bands shown are 5, 4 and 1.

The image of the month is a Landsat 5 TM scene of the Victorian flooding acquired on the morning of 20 January 2011. It’s a false colour composite image showing short-wave infra-red, near infra-red and visible green (bands 5, 4 and 2) displayed as RGB. This highlights flood waters in shades of blue and vegetation in shades of green.

The image includes Hamilton in the South Western Corner and Ballarat on the lower Eastern side of the image. Flooding around Lake Burrumbeet is clearly evident in this area.

The image of the month is a false-colour composite image of the Landsat 7 pass over the Macquarie, Castlereagh, and Namoi Rivers in northern NSW showing water in shades of black-blue, vegetation in shades of green, and more bare areas in shades of brown and pink. The image was acquired on the morning of 13 December 2010. The display combination is bands 5, 4 and 2 (short-wave infra-red, near infra-red and visible green) displayed as Red, Green and Blue.
