Geologi Short Film Competition

The Geologi Short Film competition is hosted by Geoscience Australia along with the Australian Science Teachers Association and invites all school aged groups, individuals or classes to submit and Earth science film based on the theme 'Earth science in everyday life' in one of three age divisions:

- Primary

- Years 7-10

- Years 11-12

Please note that registration is required by Friday 10 July 2009 and competition entries must be received by Friday 14 August 2009.

Submit an Earth Science Week event

Anyone is invited to submit an Earth Science event to the 2009. Make sure you include details of the event, location and a contact number. To submit an event to the Earth Science Week archive contact education@ga.gov.au.

ACT

Geoscience Australia Open Day - 18 October

To close Earth Science Week, Geoscience Australia will be holding its annual Open Day. All members of the community are invited to attend the 2009 Open Day and experience some of the work that goes on in the organisation. The day will include science talks, a children's program with gold panning and fossil making as well as a variety of science and career displays to explore.

When: Sunday 18 October

Time: 10am-4pm

Location: Geoscience Australia, cnr Jerrabomberra Ave and Hindmarsh Dr, Symonston, ACT.


VIC

Visit Triassic Park

This small reserve located to the north of Bacchus Marsh holds an important key to understanding Victoria's geological past. This site contains the only known Triassic Age sedimentary rocks in Victoria.

QLD

Determining Past Climates Teacher PD - 12 October

Guest presenter Dr Jon Luly (Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography) will provide background information, and then lead participants through an activity that involves determining climates of the past based on old environmental evidence.
