CO2 Infrastructure Project
As part of the National CO2 Infrastructure Plan (NCIP), CO2 Infrastructure project is developed to gain a National CO2 Transport and Storage Infrastructure Assessment and capability that will ensure the safe and secure transport, injection and storage of CO2.
The Project is aimed at supporting transport and storage infrastructure development that is designed to incorporate economies of scale, competitive long term costs and uncompromising safety standards.
The Project will provide easier access to data (listed below) through a single system when examining national planning needs for pipeline corridors for potential future use. These assessments must consider infrastructure needs aligned with CO2 sources and future storage hubs at a national scale, and give consideration of land access, urban development and terrain issues relating to transport and storage infrastructure. This will ultimately include the preparation of a pipeline and corridor database identifying easement and access issues that have the high potential to alleviate environment and social concerns.
Listing of data likely to be available within the system:
- Prospective storage locations
- Pipelines, underground cables etc
- Easement corridors
- Bathymetry, topography and terrain features
- Geological information (basins, geology etc)
- Energy related infrastructure (power stations etc)
- Well locations
- Urban locations (Cities, towns, rail and road networks)
- Cadastre information (native titles, parks, land parcel information, maritime boundaries etc)
The project is expected to be completed by June 2015.
