National Flood Risk Advisory Group
May 2011 meeting
The National Flood Risk Advisory Group (NFRAG) met in Hobart on 18 May 2011. The meeting provided an opportunity for all levels of government and industry to share information on climate change, key developments in flood policy and flood related activities in their jurisdiction.
The Group was updated on related National Emergency Management Committee/National Emergency Management Committee Sub-Committee activities, such as the agreed implementation plan for the National Strategy for Disaster Resilience and agreed that NFRAG should have a supporting role to play with several of the agreed actions within the implementation plan.
Members received updates on progress with the NFRAG work program. In particular, NFRAG members discussed progress on the development of the Australian Floodplain Management Manual and the update and enhancement of the Australian Flood Studies Database.
Input and progress on the Australian Building Codes Board draft standard for construction of building in flood prone areas, the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry, Victorian Flood Review and the Natural Disaster Insurance Review were discussed.
There was also brief discussion on a number of upcoming workshops, including the flood forum on new and emerging technologies (June 2011), the national flood workshop (May/June 2012) and proposed consultation workshops on the national floodplain management manual (late 2011).
