"Before I started work with Geoscience Australia I completed a Bachelor of Science (Majors in Geology and Geophysics) at the University of Adelaide. At the end of my undergraduate studies I decided to undertake an honours year, and continue on at the University of Adelaide. My thesis, titled 'A Structural, Geochronological and Geochemical Investigation of the Abt Schist; Ad Dawadimi Terrane; Central Saudi Arabia' was a joint interest work with the University of Adelaide and the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), where I investigated the tectonic history of the Ad Dawadimi Terrane and implications for the final amalgamation of Gondwana. During my honours year I had the great opportunity to travel to Saudi Arabia where I spent six weeks conducting field studies with geologists from the SGS'.
During the final years of my tertiary education I was employed by Heathgate Resources, where I was exposed to uranium systems, hydrology, data acquisition and data base systems.
At the completion of my honours year I chose to apply for a position in the Geoscience Australia's Graduate Recruitment Program. GA was a great choice for me because I am able to apply the full range of my academic studies and practical experience to real projects. One of the best things for me is that I won't have to work in the same project area for the entire year. I'll have to undertake three project rotations during the year and this means I can choose to work in any one of Geoscience Australia's key priority areas.
Currently I am in the geochronology group working on detrital zircons from the NW shelf of Australia. This will involve dating zircons and undertaking a provenance study to determine their origins prior to deposition.
The other areas I'm interested in include; Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Geothermal Power, and Risk & Impact Analysis just to mention a few. I look forward to continue to grow at GA after my year on the graduate program".
