Libby - 2011 Graduate

My passion for geology was ignited when I lived across the bay from the active volcano Tavurvur in East New Britain, Papua New Guinea as a child.

I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology and Geophysics at the University of Adelaide in 2009, followed by an Honours project in metamorphic geology. During my Honours I studied a region in southern India looking for evidence of ancient plate boundaries which may have been part of the formation of the ancient supercontinent Gondwana around 550 million years ago.

After completing my Honours degree I was looking for an opportunity to broaden my horizons and to undertake work which had positive benefits for everyday Australians. I feel that the Geoscience Australia Graduate Program fits this description perfectly.

My first rotation is working on a post-disaster recovery analysis project looking at the reconstruction of Marysville and Kinglake following the February 2009 Victorian bushfires.
