Nicola - 2011 Graduate

My interest in environmental science was fostered as a child spent examining rock pools on the South Coast of New South Wales.

I later completed a Bachelor of Global and Ocean Science at the Australian National University (ANU). As part of my undergraduate studies, I undertook a semester exchange to the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom where I completed courses on weather forecasting and studied glacial remains in Wales.

I completed my Honours degree at the ANU in 2010 where I used a laboratory model of the Southern Ocean to investigate the effects of changing winds and buoyancy on the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.

My first graduate rotation has been working with the Risk and Impact Analysis Group in the Climate Change Project. I am looking at the type of environmental conditions under which severe thunderstorms form, with a particular focus on thunderstorms that produce damaging winds.
