Sonar
- Multibeam Sonar
Multibeam sonar is a common offshore surveying tool that uses multiple sound signals to detect the seafloor. Geoscience Australia collects multibeam data as part of its seabed mapping program. - Shallow Water Sub-bottom Data
Acoustic sub-bottom profiling systems are used to determine the physical properties of the seafloor and other characteristics. - Sidescan Sonar
Sidescan sonar uses high-frequency sound pulses that are bounced off the seafloor to create an image of morphology and differences in seabed texture and substrate types.
