Minerals
Geoscience Australia provides pre-competitive geoscience information that supports and facilitates onshore energy and mineral exploration in Australia. This is achieved through integrated programs of data gathering and assessment, conducted at the national and regional scale. We undertake activities of national strategic importance such as the five-year Onshore Energy Security Program which finished in mid 2011. We also coordinate promotional events for domestic and international mineral exploration and advise the Australian Government on mineral resources, mining and land use. This work is integral to decisions regarding multiple and sequential land use and provides an understanding of the nation's known mineral endowment, the sustainable development of mineral resources and levels of exploration activity.
Energy potential assessed in southern Northern Territory
A new report released by Geoscience Australia with accompanying maps and digital data provides an insight into the potential for mineral deposits and energy systems in the southern Northern Territory. The report is an assessment of energy and mineral systems in the region based on existing data and mineral systems models which consider issues such as the source of metals and fluids and where uranium and other metals may have been deposited. The record is available as a free download.
